100,000 responses to ticket office consultation

Response greater than anticipated?

Transport Focus and London TravelWatch had received a combined 100,000 responses to proposed ticket office closures in England by 20 July. The consultation closes on 26 July.

Under the proposals, most ticket offices would close, with some operators – Avanti West Coast, Govia Thameslink Railway, Great Western Railway and South Western Railway proposing to close all facilities, including at major stations.

Transport Focus Chief Executive Anthony Smith said: ‘We’ve had a huge response to the consultation so far, with 100,000 responses received already and one week still to go for people to make their voices heard.

‘There’s still time to respond to the consultation if you haven’t done so yet. We want to hear from everyone, so we can consider the needs of all station users and local communities.’

His counterpart at London TravelWatch, Michael Roberts, added: ‘It’s vital that we hear back from as many people as possible so we can consider the diverse needs of local communities and different types of station users and passengers.’

Modern Railways understands the scale of the response is far greater than anticipated, with less than the current total expected over the whole of the consultation process.
