Network Rail is to be very much applauded for its policy of open access to detailed information about both its network and its operations. For example, industry level detail on train running is freely accessible on realtimetrains.co.uk, which shows actual and booked running times for almost every train, both passenger and freight, together with public and working times, booked platforms and the location and reasons for recovery time. Information is available for the previous seven days, with schedule information available for future dates. Similarly, traksy.co.uk provides current overviews of most sections of the network, similar to the displays available to signallers, so it’s possible to track the movement of individual trains across the network.
