NEW STREET BOX HAS PUT IN 53 YEARS OF RELIABLE SERVICE – BUT ITS TIME IS NOW UP, REPORTS TONY MILES

Since 2007 the railway across the West Midlands has been progressively resignalled, with control passing section by section to new workstations in the West Midlands Signalling Centre (WMSC) at Saltley. Originally constructed to handle signalling following the PUG2 upgrade of the West Coast main line, the cancellation of that part of the project left the building available to house all of the signalling for the West Midlands area.
