Class 88 over Shap

No franchises or namby-pamby units; grunt if you want to go faster

Looking for someone? I guess I’m doing that, standing on a deserted platform 12 at Crewe, roughly in the same spot where I stood regularly waiting for my train home, 2F73, an AM4 unit from the old platform 2A. Today I’m waiting for 4S44, the 12.16 Daventry – Mossend Russell Logistics Intermodal, headed by a Class 88. The train stops here for a crew change, but as I count down the arrival on Realtime Trains the platform is deserted except for Andy Grundy (my Direct Rail Services minder), me and a pigeon, none of whom is passed out on an ‘88’.
