Corby progress

TESTING HAS begun of the overhead electrification system on the Midland main line north of Bedford. Rail Operations Group began running diesel-hauled test trains for the overhead wiring in April, with the catenary due to be powered up in early summer.

Once the wires are live ROG will be operating electric test trains to Corby using Class 91s made redundant by the arrival of Azumas on the East Coast main line, prior to the inauguration of Class 360-operated trains to Corby, which is planned for the December 2020 timetable, although the coronavirus outbreak may cause this milestone to slip.
