CROSSRAIL 2 DECISION THIS AUTUMN

A DECISION on the route of Crossrail 2 is expected this autumn, according to Transport for London board papers.

The proposed cross-London route would link south west and north east London through a central tunnelled section. Costed at over £30 billion, the project has been the subject of an Independent Affordability Review, led by Mike Gerrard. The Commissioner’s report to TfL’s board meeting on 19 September explains the interim report was completed at the end of July, with a meeting to discuss its findings held between Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling in early September. The report to the board says at present ‘there is not an agreed timetable of next steps leading to a decision’ but that TfL is working with colleagues at the Department for Transport to agree these. The aim is for the line to be open in 2033, in time for the completion of HS2 Phase Two into Euston.
