East West Rail makes tracks

The revived railway between Bicester and Bletchley is on schedule for commissioning in 2024, EWR Alliance Deputy Director MARK JAMES tells PHILIP SHERRATT

Creation of the new East West Rail route all the way from Oxford to Cambridge will take until at least the end of the decade.But while the Government’s East West Rail Company mulls options for just how this will happen, between Bicester and Bletchley part of that railway is rapidly taking shape.

This will enable the start of those first EWR services between Oxford and Milton Keynes, EWR Co’s socalled Connection Stage One. The bulk of that work is the responsibility of the EWR Alliance, which comprises Network Rail, Atkins, Laing O’Rourke and VolkerRail.
