Euston approach works

High Speed 2

Not only does High Speed 2 require land to be cleared to expand Euston (Modern Railways, January 2018), it also requires land to widen the approaches to the station. As autumn approaches, major enabling works will get underway to free up the space required.

One of the key schemes being undertaken by the Area South enabling works contractor, a joint venture of Costain and Skanksa, is the widening of Granby Terrace Bridge. It currently crosses the rail lines into Euston just south of Mornington Crescent but as more tracks are due to be laid to provide capacity for HS2, the span needs to be increased. In September the bridge will shut, utilities will be disconnected and then work will begin to extend the bridge. It is scheduled to reopen in 2023.
