GALLIFORD TRY FOR WOLVES

GALLIFORD TRY has been named preferred contractor to deliver a new station at Wolverhampton.

The work, which will involve demolishing the existing building and replacing it with a new one, forms part of the £132 million Wolverhampton Interchange Project, which also includes a 700-metre extension of the Midland Metro to the station, due to open in 2019, and improved interchange between rail, bus and tram. Plans to rebuild the station were approved by Wolverhampton City Council in November 2016.

Pre-construction services have begun, with the new station building expected to be completed by 2019. It will feature an enhanced ticket office, larger concourse, improved retail and café facilities, increased taxi rank provision and a better passenger drop-off and pick-up arrangement.
