OPEN ACCESS operator Hull Trains was due to restart services from 21 August after a break of nearly five months due to the Covid pandemic.
The operator suspended services from 29 March after passenger demand plummeted as the pandemic took hold. Initially services restarted with a limited timetable of two services in each direction on Mondays to Saturdays and three in each direction on Sundays between Hull and London King’s Cross, with one service each day (except Saturdays) extending beyond Hull to/from Cottingham and Beverley.
The return of Hull Trains services follows the resumption of services by fellow open access operator Grand Central on 26 July (p10, last month). As open access operators neither received financial support from the Department for Transport as was afforded to franchised operators through Emergency Measures Agreements.
