The Elizabeth Line was due to open with much fanfare this month. That, as we now know, is not to be; the signs are the line remains a long way from completion. So, how to get the programme back on track? Answer: bring in an experienced and trusted hand to navigate the challenging inal strait.

To this end Transport for London has parachuted in Mark Wild, London Underground’s managing director, as the new chief executive of Crossrail Ltd. The appointment has been agreed by the Department for Transport, which together with TfL sponsors the Crossrail programme.
