What is holding back innovation in the railway industry? Delegates at the Railway Industry Association’s annual innovation conference on 6-7 March were clear: it is not lack of ideas that is preventing progress. In an electronic poll of delegates, just 1% ascribed lack of progress to the scarcity of ideas, while ‘risk aversion’ scored in the high 40s and ‘inability to procure’ was identified as the main cause, at over 50%.
