iPORT RAIL TERMINAL OPENS

A NEW intermodal rail freight terminal has opened at the iPort logistics hub near Doncaster.

The terminal welcomed its first train in late February. The iPort logistics park is a 337-acre site offering six million square feet of logistics space, with further development to come. The rail facility is located on a 30-acre site connected to the East Coast main line, next to the M18 motorway and near to Doncaster-Sheffield airport.

The iPort Rail terminal will be able to accommodate 775-metre-long intermodal trains up to six times a day, with one 800-metre reception siding, two 400-metre handling sidings, a head-shunt and refuge sidings. It currently provides storage for 1,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), rising to 3,000 in future phases as more sidings are added. It also has a reach stacker operation with a 115-tonne front axle load and a Channel Tunnel approved secure facility for international movements.
