JEWERS DOORS AT OLD OAK

In Business

SPECIALIST INDUSTRIAL door manufacturer Jewers Doors has installed eight of its Swift-SEW doors and two smaller Swift horizontal bi-folding doors at the new Elizabeth Line depot at Old Oak Common in west London.

The depot has been built by Taylor Woodrow under a £142 million contract awarded by Transport for London. Each door is four metres wide and 6.6 metres high, comprising four highly insulated single piece composite panels, with two leaves folding to each side when open. An 850mm by 760mm cut-out in the door allows overhead wires to pass through the closed door. The cut-out is lined with 9mm-thick safety matting tested to 30kVA to prevent bird entry, and for additional safety the door is earthed back to the structure with suitably rated earth bonding braids.

Each door panel incorporates a toughened glass double-glazed vision panel, and to meet environmental criteria the panels are injected with CFC-free polyurethane foam to ensure thermal efficiency and reduced noise.
