LOSS OF AWARENESS LIKELY CAUSE OF CROYDON TRAM DERAILMENT

THE FATAL tram accident at Sandilands on the Croydon Tramlink network on 9 November 2016 was caused by the tram’s driver not slowing the tram sufficiently on the approach to a sharp curve, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch has found. RAIB suggests the driver suffered a temporary loss of awareness, which possibly caused him to microsleep.
