Our second day of Golden Whistle winners announcements features the winning passenger operators in the Long Distance category and the winners of the Irish Rail awards.

The virtual announcement comes in place of a traditional Golden Whistles event. Our thanks go to the Institution of Railway Operators for their assistance and support with the Whistles, and also to our sponsors Tracsis and Porterbrook for their ongoing support.

Yesterday we announced the winning passenger operators in the London and South East and Regional categories. Today we complete our trio of passenger operator awards by announced the winners in the Long Distance sector. Calculations are based on the On Time performance Moving Annual Average to Period 9 of 2020-21. The winners are:

Gold Whistle (best performance) – Greater Anglia, with an On Time figure of 75.8%

Silver Whistle (most improved performance) – LNER, with a 16.1% improvement

Irish Rail is also a strong supporter of the work of the IRO, and in recent years we have awarded trophies to the best performing routes in Ireland. At the 2021 awards, the winners are:

Gold Whistle (right time punctuality) – Waterford

Gold Whistle (delay minutes) – Heuston Commuter

Tomorrow we will announce the winners in the Freight category, followed on Thursday by the winners of the awards for minimising delay minutes. On Friday the IRO is hosting a webinar at which Network Rail Chief Executive Andrew Haines will speak, following which we will announce the winners of the Outstanding Operator categories.
