NEW STOCK TO TRANSFORM SLEEPERS

First completed vehicle: a Mk 5 leaves the CAF plant in Spain for Velím in the Czech Republic, with the first stage of the journey undertaken by road.

Caledonian Sleeper expects the first of its new Mk 5 coaches to move to the UK this autumn to undergo testing.

The company has ordered 75 vehicles from CAF, the first five of which have moved from CAF’s Beasain factory in Spain to Velím in the Czech Republic for testing. Following dynamic testing, these five vehicles will then move via the Channel Tunnel to Polmadie depot in Glasgow, with the next 12 due to arrive from Spain by ship and land at Teesport in late November/early December. ‘We’re aiming to use a Scottish port for the remaining 57 vehicles in the fleet, with Ayr and Grangemouth both possibilities’ reports David Simpson, Production and Safety Director at Serco Caledonian Sleeper.
