NORTHERN POWERHOUSE RAIL

As the new Prime Minister gave the scheme his backing, TONY MILES spoke to NPR Director TIM WOOD about the emerging plans for improved services across the North

Northern Powerhouse Rail is more than just a new line linking some key northern cities: it is a programme aimed at transforming the railways in the North through a mix of new and upgraded lines. NPR will increase capacity and connectivity and reduce journey times between the major cities. It forms the centrepiece of Transport for the North’s Strategic Transport Plan and Investment Programme. On 27 July new Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave the scheme his personal endorsement.
