Phase 2b bill delayed

High Speed 2

Legislation required to construct Phase 2b of High Speed 2 has been delayed to allow a rethink of connections to the rest of the rail network.

The legislative timetable for the routes from Crewe to Manchester and Wigan, and from the West Midlands to Leeds and the East Coast main line, has been put back approximately a year to allow consideration of links to Northern Powerhouse Rail – a planned network which includes a route across the Pennines connecting the main cities in the north of England with new and upgraded track.
