PICCADILLY FLEET DESIGN UNVEILED

2024 STOCK TO BE FIRST DEEP TUBE WITH AIR CONDITIONING

TRANSPORT FOR London and Siemens Mobility have unveiled the detailed design of the new fleet of 94 trains which will be introduced on the Piccadilly Line from 2025.

TfL placed the order for a new fleet with Siemens in 2018. The ‘Inspiro London’ design, part of Siemens’ ‘Inspiro’ family, incorporates wider doors and, for the first time on a deep tube fleet, walk-through carriages and air conditioning, with this equipment located beneath carriage floors. Optimisation of space increases capacity by 10%, while TfL and Siemens say the new nine-car trains, to be known as 2024 stock, will be lighter than existing designs, increasing energy efficiency and reducing damage to tracks. This is achieved by adopting an articulated design with fewer bogies per full length train. Digital screens will be fitted for real-time passenger information and advertising, while regenerative braking, LED lighting and advanced energy management will reduce energy consumption by 20% compared with the existing fleet.
