Queen Street set for 2020 completion

THE REDEVELOPMENT of Glasgow Queen Street station is to be completed by spring 2020, Network Rail has confirmed.

NR has also released new visuals of the redeveloped station. Work is currently progressing with demolishing buildings in front of the station to create space to extend platforms and build a new concourse, with 75% of demolition work now completed.

Platforms 2 to 5 at the station will be extended out towards George Square, taking up the majority of the space covered by the train shed roof, with a new glass-fronted concourse to accommodate growing passenger numbers.

The redevelopment work is part of the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP), covering routes across the Scottish central belt, with eight-car Class 385 formations set to operate between the two cities on the route via Falkirk. The original aim was to complete the redevelopment by 2019, but delays receiving approval for the works have set this timescale back.
