RAILS, RATHER THAN RYAN

Welcome

InnoTrans by train: the prospect of travelling to Berlin by rail beats the thought of dropping into Schönefeld on one of the budget airlines. I did it the first time I visited the show, back in 2000, on a sleeper from Brussels. That’s no longer possible since the decimation of the Continental sleeper train network, but day travel is feasible. Although I wasn’t going all the way to Berlin in one day, as a stop off en route was called for to visit Alstom’s new hydrogen train in Bremervörde (p84), which entered passenger service on the first day of the exhibition, 17 September 2018.
