OLErt is a system employed on the Great Western main line for monitoring the OLE (overhead line electrification) and pantograph interface. With everyday monitoring of the interface, it improves on Network Rail’s existing inspection routine. This comprises a combination of the MENTOR vehicle providing dynamic contact force information at six to 12-month intervals, but that cannot run above 100mph; and the New Measurement Train, running once every four weeks, which consists of a laser system that cannot provide force readings and only gives visual data.
