RESTORATION REWARDED

A virtual ceremony on 2 December saw Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of Network Rail, hand out virtual plaques to the winners of the 2020 National Railway Heritage Awards competition. London Underground Operational Enhancement Award: Stirling station is another significant one which we have seen several times in recent years, commending works done but awaiting the final opportunity to judge the whole. The stupendous work in raising the footbridge in order to accommodate the catenary for the Alloa electrification, coupled with works on the extensive canopies, where life-expired glass has been replaced with modern polycarbonate sheets, has at last made this possible. The canopies with their central tower are a joy to behold and worthy of commendation for Network Rail and its contractor Story Construction. Bob Gardiner
