The 07.05 Derby to London is our favourite train, an HST with original seats and a kitchen-cooked breakfast. Steve Dentith has this off to a fine art, noting that you get your breakfast quicker if you are nearer the kitchen.

This train gives us plenty of time for the 10.00 off King’s Cross, for many years the ‘Flying Scotsman’, but now the HST to Aberdeen.
