The ScotRail HST

Scotland is seeing a rail revolution, combining infrastructure and rolling stock improvements. A key element of the latter is ScotRail’s plan to introduce High Speed Trains on inter-city routes serving Scotland’s seven cities (Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth and Stirling). Chris Tait, ScotRail’s Project Manager leading this programme, updated the Golden Spanners conference on progress. The HSTs will replace Class 158s and ‘170s’ on the inter-city routes, and ScotRail is creating a distinctive inter-city brand incorporating the seven cities theme on the sides of the power cars. The key improvements are targeted at a major timetable change in May 2019, by which time all 26 of ScotRail’s HSTs are due to be in service.
