The Superannuated Anoraks see the future and it works
Here they go again, stuffing themselves with fried breakfasts on an HST. Aha! Not this time; we have decided to sample ‘The Highland Chieftain’ and, since that leaves King’s Cross at 12.00, we’ve had a lie in. The 09.01 Meridian is more representative of today’s railway – five coaches, wrong way round on indicator, galley equipment not working, seat reservations not working, toilet not working, accompanied by engine noise and deafening announcements to see it, say it, sort it for about the 10th time this morning. To add insult to injury, the journey now takes longer with the ‘improved’ timetable. King’s Cross is host to a huge dinosaur, not in anticipation of the return of LNER, but advertising Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
