TALGO CHOOSES TWO PREFERRED UK SITES

News Front

SPANISH MANUFACTURER Talgo has announced plans to develop two UK-based facilities: a factory at Longannet in Scotland and an innovation centre at Chesterield in Derbyshire.

The factory would occupy an area of over 70,000 square metres and would take 18 months to build. The manufacturer says it envisages being ready to ‘push the button’ on construction once it wins an order. The Chesterfield site would serve as a base from which Talgo would develop an ‘All Britain’ strategy to protect and grow the supply chain, provide opportunities for young people and grow the UK’s industrial base.

Talgo is bidding for the contract to build the irst trains for HS2 and promises to establish ‘true manufacturing’ in the UK, rather than assembly of parts made elsewhere.
