NETWORK RAIL has published updated proposals for changes to the railway along the sea wall in south Devon.
The six-week consultation concerns plans to protect the 1.8km stretch between Parsons Tunnel and Teignmouth (PT2T). NR’s favoured plan is to move the railway out to sea to protect it from rock falls from the cliffs, and the company says the updated design means most of the beach is retained as it only moves the railway away from the most hazardous areas. A wider, realigned coastal path would also be built, not extending any further out than the current extent of Sprey Point, while a landward coastal path will also be created between Holcombe and Sprey Point.
The work requires a Transport and Works Act Order, which Network Rail plans to submit later this year once feedback is received from the consultation.
