Wherry lines resignalling

RESIGNALLING OF the Wherry lines between Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft began at the start of February and was due to be completed in a phased 23-day programme.

Victorian mechanical signals are being replaced by a modern signalling system, while level crossings at Brundall, Cantley, Lingwood Chapel Road, Lingwood Station Road, Oulton Broad North and Strumpshaw are being upgraded to full barriers with remotely controlled CCTV. Victoria Road crossing on the East Suffolk line near to Oulton Broad South is also being upgraded as part of the project.

Taking advantage of the closure, Network Rail scheduled planned repairs and renewals works at the same time, including a full bridge replacement at Postwick and track renewals at Lowestoft, Acle and Hassingham, while additional maintenance works were carried out to Reedham and Somerleyton swing bridges.
