WIRRAL LINE WORKS COMPLETED

Job done: men at work in the Wirral tunnel.

A SIX-MONTH programme to renew tracks in the Wirral line loop beneath Liverpool city centre has been completed by Network Rail. The one-way loop, part of the Merseyrail network, was built in the 1970s and the track required renewal. NR also took the opportunity to replace the track under the river Mersey between James Street and Hamilton Square. Services were fully restored on 19 June, and the new track is expected to last up to 60 years.
